Featuring an exciting collection of plucked stringed instruments from around the world, the Vancouver Chinese Instrumental Music Society and the Vancouver Chinese Classical Garden presents Plucking Strings on Sunday June 5th, 2011. Jirong Huang, musical director of the Vancouver Chinese Music ensemble will be working with guest musicians on the Vietnamese Dan Bau, Chinese ruan, Indian sitar and western guitar. The ensemble will bring together cultural communities in celebration of the lute family of music.


The night’s program will emceed by renouned linguist, Jan Walls, giving context to a display of an unconventional arrangement of instruments. Each will be presented in solo performance, performing an array of technique and skill to traditional songs and together, they will showcase new innovative works and improvised music.

Formed in 1989, the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble is the first professional Chinese Instrumental music group established in Canada. Our versatile group embraces the popular and the classical traditions of China as well as western classical and contemporary music performed on Chinese instruments. Our approach is transformative in nature as each project incorporates innovative collaborations between our ensemble with musicians playing instruments from other cultures. New music is created from our eclectic ensemble arrangements presenting Chinese instruments in a new light each time.

溫哥華中華樂團將於2011年6月5日星期天晚上7時在中山公園舉行《多國彈撥弦樂集錦》演奏會。音樂會由二胡大師黃繼榮為藝術總監,以及樂團的琵琶演奏家劉桂蓮和阮演奏家 于志敏以外,還特別邀請到印度錫塔爾琴演奏家Neelamjit Dhillon,越南獨弦琴演奏家Bic Hoang和加拿大吉他演奏家John Oliver,共同展示具有多元文化色彩的音樂。

通過該音樂會聽眾將欣賞到演奏家們的精湛技藝和令人驚嘆的旋律,尤其是各類彈撥樂器通過獨奏,重奏和合奏的表演方式,來顯示傳統和創新技藝相結合的特殊效果 。節目主持由著名語言學家王健教授 Dr Jan Walls擔任 。

溫哥華中華樂團成立於一九八九年,是加拿大第一個由專業中國音樂家組成,以繼承和發揚中國音樂文化為宗旨的音樂團體。樂團的第一次亮相,是在溫哥華奧芬劇場舉行的加拿大總督專場音樂會上演出,隨後在加美各地演出數百場,其精湛技藝和豐富多采的節目深受廣大觀眾評。
